wyatt, are you talking about adr? the rest of us are talking about location sound. ;-)
anyway, you'd still have to sync your hi8 reference sound to the film or it would be pretty useless as a reference, so the real problem remains...

I think what Wyatt is saying is to playback the audio recorded at the location with your video camera and record it onto your sound stripe using your projector's microphone.

8th man, i think you're wrong. why would you plug a mic into your projector if it was the hi8 sound you were after? ;-)
he must be talking about adr, since he's mentioning being able to get the mic close to the talent...
